Putting it all together
This section is also your Plan Of Action!
Now you need to go through your entire folder containing your new webpages. All of them, with the exception of your index.html (home page) should be completed. Check each won (oops!) to see that there is no spelling or grammar problem. Check all the links to make sure they work properly.
Place your cursor over the graphics and check the alt tags. If you forgot to do them, open the HTML and do it now, using keyword phrases. Design and place Meta Tags in all your pages using the guidelines for character or word count.
We saved the front page for last. Now, you know what was placed inside and you have an idea of the total theme of your website.
Grab a pen and piece of paper. Go somewhere quiet! You need to write a 650 word story for your frontpage using keywords and keyword phrases to describe your masterpiece!
You may want to read the Meta Tag section again on the importance and choice of the proper Keyword Phrases for you site. On a separate piece of paper, jot down the keywords and keyword phrases that you are using. These will be used to make your Meta Tags for this page. After you are satisfied with what you have written, edit the index page. Create and place your Meta Tags.
Now, make a mirror page for your Marketing Center and find at least 5 free web hosting sites to put it.
We are almost ready to upload the entire site to your domain. There is one more crucial file that must be produced and placed in the root directory along with your other pages you have just finished. It's called the robots.txt file. We need to tell the search engines which pages or files not to index. YOU MUST DO THIS. Some search engines will not accept your pages for indexing if you do not have this file. Open your notepad. At the top put:
User-agent: *
On the next line put:
Disallow: /images/
The above example tells the search engines not to index your images folder on your domain.
Now tell the robots which files or folders not to index by adding additional lines of Disallow: Use only one Disallow per line. Always put the forward slash before and behind any folder you do not want indexed. If you are disallowing a single webpage, then the forward slash would only be used before the page name. (Example: Disallow: /help_page.html). When you are all done, save the file as robots.txt and upload it with the rest of your pages. If you would like to see an example of one, go to http://google.com/robots.txt
